Know Your Food |
Of all the places that we have visited and fallen in love with, the Isle of Man is close to the top of the list of favourites. For us the island has it all, bikes, wonderful beer, banging fresh Manx food, a large dollop of adventure and garnished with the infectious enthusiasm of everyone on the island, full of zest, with warm hearted humour. Our love affair with the Isle of Man and it’s food produce has developed over a number of years, in fact back to when we were children. In our very first television series we encountered the strange Manx Loaghtan sheep, and set up a bikers' feast of local lamb and the best scallops in the world on the beach at Douglas. The produce from the Isle of Man is very special. The seafood is without question some of the best we have encountered, we use queenies wherever possible, where else do you have such choice of sustainable fishing. From the meat to the dairy, produce from the island is king. People on the Isle of Man care about the food, and so do the government. We worked with the producers from the Island at the BBC Good Food show last year and the stand sponsored by the government was one of the best in the show. Ourselves and the rest of the exhibition were left in no doubt that the Isle of Man is a show stopper, ticking all the boxes for good quality fresh sustainable produce at a fair price. The food and the Manx people are very special to us both…not forgetting you also have the greatest road racing in the world. People are becoming more concerned and aware about the quality and provenance of their food, as quite rightly people should. We say, just look to the Isle of Man, they have the answers. |
